In 2005, UGANET launched the provision of free legal aid services by tapping the already existing internal expertise and through volunteer lawyers as a response to the feedback and outcry from the media advocacy programmes and trainees for legal services for protect the human rights of PLHAs and those affected by HIV/AIDS.
In promoting and protecting the legal rights of people affected by HIV/AIDS, UGANET provides Legal Aid Services to Persons who are living with and those who are affected by HIV/AIDS who are facing discrimination and other violations of their rights due to their HIV/AIDS Status.
Services offered include;-
Legal advice and assistance of making wills.
Safe Custody of wills made by our Clients or Members of the Community in the 5 districts of operation.
Free legal sensitization on legal and human rights on Radio Programmes.
Community Sensitizations on HIV/AIDS & Human Rights.
Free court representation
Assistance with reporting and filling of Complaints to the Uganda Human Rights commission.
Watching Briefs on cases of Defilement and Rape.
Collection of Electorates, views and proposals on pressing HIV/AIDS and Human Rights issues in the Community to forward them to MPs, other national and local Council Leaders.
Lobbying and advocacy of MPs and District Leaders for law reform and better
Enforcement existing laws.
