In 2005, UGANET launched the provision of free legal aid services by tapping the already existing internal expertise and through volunteer lawyers as a response to the feedback and outcry from the media advocacy programmes and trainees for legal services for protect the human rights of PLHAs and those affected by HIV/AIDS.

In promoting and protecting the legal rights of people affected by HIV/AIDS, UGANET provides Legal Aid Services to Persons who are living with and those who are affected by HIV/AIDS who are facing discrimination and other violations of their rights due to their HIV/AIDS Status.

Services offered include;-

  • Legal advice and assistance of making wills.

  • Safe Custody of wills made by our Clients or Members of the Community in the 5 districts of operation.

  • Free legal sensitization on legal and human rights on Radio Programmes.

  • Community Sensitizations on HIV/AIDS & Human Rights.

  • Free court representation 

  • Assistance with reporting and filling of Complaints to the Uganda Human Rights commission.

  • Watching Briefs on cases of Defilement and Rape.

  • Collection of Electorates, views and proposals on pressing HIV/AIDS and Human Rights issues in the Community to forward them to MPs, other national and local Council Leaders.

  • Lobbying and advocacy of MPs and District Leaders for law reform and better

  • Enforcement existing laws.
