 Established in 1995, the Uganda Network on Law, Ethics and HIV/AIDS (UGANET), is a non-governmental organization that brings together organizations and individuals with a keen interest in advocating for the development and strengthening of an appropriate human rights, legal, ethical and policy response to HIV/AIDS. 

 

Our Mission:

“To advocate for strengthening the legal, human rights and ethical framework for HIV/AIDS response in Uganda“ 

 

Strategic Objectives 2006 – 2011

In line with its strategic plan (2005-2011), UGANET has outlined the following strategic objectives;

  • To achieve consensus of pertinent legal and ethical issues relating to HIV/AIDS.
  • To integrate legal, ethical and human rights issues related to HIV/AIDS in the work of civic, national and community leaders;
  • To document and disseminate information on legal, ethical and human rights issues related to HIV/AIDS.
  •  To facilitate the provision of legal redress and enforcement of laws for the protection of the PLHAs;
  • To contribute towards the establishment of legal framework for responding to the legal implications of HIV/AIDS;
  • To establish a system for monitoring and evaluating the impact of UGANET activities.
 

Governing Structure

UGANET is made up of three major organs; the general assembly, the National Executive Committee which also doubles as the board of directors and the secretariat. 

 

The General Assembly

This is the supreme authority of UGANET that gives general direction for realizing UGANET’s objectives.

The General Assembly is attended by members who comprise of organizations and individuals who are committed to the development and strengthening of an appropriate human rights legal policy, ethical response to HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

The membership is multidisciplinary, comprising of Lawyers, Social Workers, HIV/AIDS counselors as well as persons living with HIV/AIDS. The membership is categorized as follows: Full members, Associate members, Affiliate members and honorary members.Our Board comprises of 11 elected members and the Board Composition of persons with diverse professional backgrounds and work experience contributes to enriching UGANET’s Capacity and enhances our networking and partnership development.
