Uganet provides Legal Aid Services to Persons who are living with and those who are affected by HIV/AIDS who are facing discrimination and other violation of their rights due to the HIV/AIDS Status.

In 2005, we launched the provision of free legal aid services by tapping the already existing internal expertise and through volunteer lawyers as a response to the feedback and outcry from the media advocacy programmes and trainees for legal services for protect the human rights of PLHAs and those affected by HIV/AIDS. By the end of the year, 13 clients mainly comprising of widows and other women living with HIV/AIDS and PLHAs who have been terminated from employment.

CURRENTLY

Provision of National and District based legal Aid Services: District Legal/Program Officers were recruited and offices opened in the 5 districts. There has been a continuous provision of free legal Aid services to people infected and those affected by HIV/AIDS. A number of clients have been attended to and more are expected with time. Due to the huge turn up of participants for VCT services during the community workshops, it was agreed that our district offices should provide free monthly VCT services to community members.
